Thousands of Britons are set to use the Easter break as a chance to get away, be it on holidays to India, Thailand or other destinations.

According to data released by the car hire comparison site carrentals.co.uk, there has been a 15 per cent increase in advanced bookings for Easter 2009 when compared with the same period the year before, suggesting that the number of holidays is also rising.

However, it was also discovered that people are not just taking the opportunity to have the four days as travel time, but are opting for longer breaks – interest in week-long, nine-day, twelve-day and two-week breaks was also up.

Carrentals.co.uk managing director Gareth Robinson said: “We’ve definitely seen a change in booking this Easter – customers seem to want to escape the UK and the constant reminders of recession.”

Easter Day falls on Sunday April 12th this year – this could be ideal for people hoping to take holidays to India.

Goa was recently recommended by the Nation Travel as a particularly good place to go during that month.
