The Coptic culture celebrates the new year at the end of this month.

Staying in Sharm el Sheikh is often an experience that lives long in the memory.

The Red Sea resort has some of the best driving sites in the world and the weather is virtually guaranteed as temperatures rarely dip below 20 degrees C at any point in the year.

However, next month will offer a rare chance for tourists to combine the holiday culture with the rich traditions of Egypt, as the country celebrates the Coptic New Year.

Events begin with the feast of Neyrouz on August 29th, but other festivities are conducted through the first weeks of September.

The Coptic calendar dates back to 4240 BC and is still employed by the farmers who work on the fertile lands by the banks of the Nile.

There may not be much agriculture in Sharm el Sheik, but there are plenty of restaurants and after ten days of fasting Copts will be ready to celebrate.
