A new zoo is expected to be built in Dubai in the coming months.

Travellers on flights to Dubai could soon have a new attraction to visit in the emirate as plans to construct a zoo have been announced.

The Dubai Municipality has started to look into plans to create a new zoo in the state and move the animals currently in residence at the location across to another site.

Plans to create a newer home for the animals were revealed by Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality, who explained the existing location is no longer meeting modern standards.

“Actually, the current zoo should be improved, as it is very old and small after the huge development around it and increasing number of animals and visitors,” Mr Lootah added.

At present, there are over 200 species of animals living in Dubai Zoo.

Wildlife lovers on flights to Dubai could decide to head to Ski Dubai in the Mall of the Emirates, as it is now home to a colony of 20 penguins.
