People booking trips abroad this summer, be they holidays to Dubai, Thailand or elsewhere, should always ensure that they book with a reputable company.

This is the advice of Frances Tuke of Abta, the Travel Association, who said that DIY holidays can be a risk and that not all products bought in this manner may be financially protected in case of the firm going bust.

“The regulations that are involved in financial protection are very complicated. As a traveller, you do need to be aware of what you’re booking and ask,” she stressed.

Ms Tuke added that it may be worth booking holidays using a credit card for extra peace of mind.

Southall Travel is a member of Abta and the International Air Transport Association, as well as being Atol-protected.

This means that all travel arrangements – including flights and package holidays – booked through the company are financially protected.

Many of the flights and flight-inclusive holidays on this website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. But ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services listed on this website. Please ask us to confirm what protection may apply to your booking. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate then the booking will not be ATOL protected. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. If you have booked a flight only where the ticket is not issued immediately, your flight will be protected under our ATOL. Please see our booking conditions for information, or for more information about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate go to www.atol.org.uk/ATOLCertificate
