It is an event suitable for holidaymakers of all age groups, with troupes of international artists flown in to entertain the crowds daily between 17:00 and 22:00 local time.

In addition, there will be a pioneering show for children thanks to the award-winning TV series Sesame Street.

A 30-minute daily show called 1-2-3-Imagine! will feature singing and dancing from characters including Elmo and the Cookie Monster, with a chance for the little ones to meet and greet their favourites afterwards.

At the shopping centre nearby, visitors will also have the chance to win prizes in raffles and compeitions.

Tom Miles, senior general manager of retail at Dubai Festival City, said: “Dubai Summer Surprises has secured an international standing and reputation over the years and is an important part of Dubai’s shopping and leisure calendar.

“We are thrilled to offer a variety of entertaining and exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy. The summer fun begins at Festival Centre.”

The event will run until August 3rd.

Figures from Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing show that of the one million visitors from the UK last year, two-thirds say they plan to return soon, reports the Financial Times.
