More people from the UK took a trip to Dubai in the first six months of 2012 than last year.

The popularity of Dubai fails to slow up, as recent figures have shown that more people from the UK have visited the emirate in the first two quarters of 2012 than the previous year.

According to the latest report from the department of tourism and commerce marketing (DTCM), accommodation bookings in Dubai were up to 170,452 in the first six months of this year.

This is an 11 per cent rise on 2011 and is even more impressive given that the total number of outbound tourists in the UK fell during this period, reports Breaking Travel News.

Ian Scott, director UK and Ireland for the DTCM, commented: “We are delighted with the UK results for quarter two, and confident that visitor numbers will continue to be positive throughout the year.”

He added that the rise of holidaymakers was in part due to Dubai’s new-found popularity with families, explaining that the region now offers kids lot of fun attractions.
