The Dubai marathon has been run in the fastest time ever by athlete Ayele Abshero.

People who took flights to Dubai in order to take part in the state’s marathon could be interested to know the event saw its fastest ever time this year.

Athlete Ayele Abshero broke the course record when he completed the route today (January 27th 2012) in two hours, four minutes and 23 seconds to clinch victory.

“By winning, I’m very happy. For the next marathon, this win will be a big motivation … If I can go to the Olympics, I will try and do something special.” Abeshero said after finishing the race.

The top three runners in the race were all from Ethiopia, with Dino Sefir Kemal and Markos Geneti taking second and third place respectively.

Runners started off close to the Burj Khalifa and ran along the Persian Gulf coast in what is a mainly flat race.

In future, people who take flights to Dubai in order to take part in the marathon will be able to put their feet up afterwards in a new 1,600 room hotel that is to be constructed.
