Take time out to enjoy yourself in Australia, a tourism source has advised.

People who take cheap flights to Australia and enter the country on a working holiday visa (WHV) should make sure they do not spend their entire time in the country at work.

This is the advice of Rodney Harrex, UK and Northern Europe general manager at Tourism Australia, who stressed that holidaymakers could get to know all sorts of people by spending some time relaxing or sightseeing.

He said: “The fundamental idea behind the WHV is that people pick up casual work to help fund their travels around Australia. Working is a great way to meet people.”

Mr Harrex stressed that the best sector to get into for people keen to go to Australia with a WHV is agriculture, since there is always a need for people to do farming and fruit picking.

Tourism Australia recently urged UK school leavers to visit the southern hemisphere on a WHV if they fail to get into the university they wanted to enter.
