Although the Australian summer is classed as off-season for the Australian resort of Thredbro, the area is still an excellent place to visit for families right now, one writer has said.

Sydney Morning Herald reporter Sean Mooney said he regularly heads there in summer and autumn, even though Thredbro is best known as a ski resort.

He describes it as “top drawer” for all kinds of holidaymakers thanks to the range of available things to do there, including mountain biking and hurtling down bobsled tracks on karts.

And while Thredbro is often packed during the snowy season, it is pleasantly tranquil at this time of year thanks to a lack of other tourists, Mr Mooney said.

“It’s a testament to the fact that off-season doesn’t always mean off-the-boil,” he concluded.

Thredbro is open 365 days a year and is located half-way between Sydney and Melbourne. Anyone heading there could book flights to sydney with Virgin and then hire a car.
