Sydney Film Festival has announced the first of the movies that will be shown during this year’s event.

Cinema fans can now plan to see a number of award-winning titles, including Beasts of the Southern Wild, which took US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival and Tabu, which scooped the Fipresci prize at Berlin Film Festival

A total of 25 films have been announced by the organisers of the event, which is to take place in the city between June 6th and 16th.

Nashen Moodley festival director for Sydney Film Festival, said: “This is just a cross-section and a taste of what we have in store, but you’ll already see the extraordinary diversity in subject, style and geography that makes a great international film festival.”

The full list of over 150 films and documentaries that are to be screened at this year’s event will be announced on May 9th 2012, with a number of films from emerging talents set to make the list.
