Anyone going on holidays to Sydney soon may be pleased to know that it has come top in a poll of the world’s favourite cities as voted for by the readers of a travel magazine.

The annual Readers’ Choice Survey carried out by Conde Nast Traveler magazine saw Sydney voted as favourite for the seventh year in a row, followed by San Francisco, Florence, Cape Town and Bangkok.

It also came top on the Australian and Pacific category, with Melbourne in second place and Queenstown New Zealand scooping third.

Conde Nast Traveler editor-in-chief Klara Glowczewska said: “The awards, with over 32,000 readers voting, are a credit to the worldly expertise of our readers – passionate travellers for whom no island is too remote, no city too challenging, and no hotel too untested.”

Holidays to Australia are currently being highlighted in a new campaign created by Baz Luhrmann which showcases the best the vast country has to offer and is twinned with the new film Australia starring Nicole Kidman.
