Western Australia is taking action to ensure its seas are free of dangerous sharks, despite attacks on humans being very rare.

The Western Australia state government is taking action to keep sharks away from bathing waters along the coast.

It has announced plans to kill any of the creatures that come too close to shore to ensure the area is safe for residents and tourists.

The decision has been taken in response to a recent cluster of attacks, which is a very rare occurrence as normally serious incidents involving humans occur no more often than once every eight years.

People catching flights to Perth may of course enjoy beaches like Cottesloe without swimming in the sea, while many will prefer to take to the water by boat anyway.

The latter activity may include a visit to Rottnest Island, where the wildlife is considerably cuter than Jaws and friends.

It includes the Quokkas, a marsupial that looks like a very small Kangaroo and is native to the island, although it is found in a few other locations in Western Australia.
