Britons should choose holidays to Cape Town if they want to be impressed, a new travel guide has suggested.

According to Frommers, the South African destination is one of the world’s best places to holiday thanks to its wide range of attractions.

It points out that the city is home to Nelson Mandela’s former prison, as well as Table Mountain and numerous shops selling diamonds that were mined nearby.

The guide also suggests a trip to False Bay to see the penguins or a jeep safari in order to get up close and personal to some of the country’s most exciting wildlife.

“Cape Town is a true feast for the senses,” Frommers comments.

South Africa is currently experiencing a frenzy of infrastructure improvements in time for the Fifa World Cup in 2010.

Anyone looking for flights to Cape Town could consider travelling with Virgin Atlantic, which offers regular services from the UK.
