Appropriate Time

It is a good idea to book flights for Christmas and New Year around three to four weeks in advance to buy tickets at cheaper rates. Fares shoot up as Christmas and New Year draw closer. Accordingly, this year it seems to be a good idea to book flights for Christmas around 21st November and around 5th December for New Year.

Look into the Business Class Fares as Well

Travellers should also look into business class fares while booking flights as it is likely that business class fares will dip low during the light business travel periods of Christmas or New Year.

Subscribe to Airline Newsletters

Subscribe to the airline newsletters as they will update you about latest deals. Travellers can enjoy the first mover advantage as the newsletters will inform them about the ticket sales on new routes. So, sign up for the company newsletters and even Facebook groups and Twitter feeds of your airlines to be the first ones to hear about new deals.

Consider Buying Two Separate Tickets

Travellers looking for bargains on ticket prices may find good options by comparing the prices of separate flights with the price of a round-trip-ticket. At times, purchasing two single tickets is cheaper.

Opt for Package Deals

Travellers who have missed out on booking flights around three to four weeks earlier can still save some money by opting for package deals, including air/hotel or air/hotel/air during the peak travel time. The bundled prices offered by the travel companies are often very competitive.

Figure Out the Best Days to Fly

Travellers can also bag better deals by determining the best days to fly on. For instance, as both Christmas and New Year are falling on Sundays this year, it will be safe to assume that many people will be on a holiday on 26th December (Monday) and 2nd January (Monday). So, the best days to travel should be 21st December or before and 4th January 4 or later.
