The Travel Foundation is urging holidaymakers to think about the environment while on a break.

People can still do plenty of things to help the environment while on holidays abroad, without too much effort. This is the opinion of Sue Hurdle, chief executive of The Travel Foundation, who stated that small actions can make a big difference.

She explained that her organisation is encouraging travellers who have booked flights to Thailand and other holiday destinations to take some simple steps to be green during their break.

Among her recommendations are taking short showers instead of baths to conserve water and buying local souvenirs and produce to “make sure our holidays benefit the people who live there”.

Greener Holidays released a survey earlier this month which found that, while 49 per cent of people admit to green habits at home, many fail to transfer this to their trips away.

Some 87 per cent of respondents stated that they recycle while at home, but just 41 per cent also recycle while on holiday.
