Phuket is making the final preparations for the Kings Cup Regatta, which takes place next month.

People taking flights to Phuket in the coming weeks could be lucky enough to catch some of the thrilling action seen as part of the Kings Cup Regatta.

The annual race is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year when the event begins on December 3rd 2010.

Running for a week, the event at Kata Beach promises to be the biggest ever, as a record number of boats and more than 1,000 sailors travel to Phuket to compete.

“Phuket King’s Cup competitors enjoy champagne sailing conditions, the beautiful Andaman Sea backdrop, a series of exciting race locations and the famous beachfront parties,” said Kevin Whitcraft, president of the organising committee of the regatta.

The event was founded to celebrate the 60th birthday of the king of Thailand.

A group of weary cyclists may have greeted people arriving on flights to Phuket last month, after a group of former servicemen travelled on two wheels from Bangkok to raise money for charity.
