Demonstrated at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, travellers jetting off on a flight to Bangkok this May will be able to witness the unusual looking sport of foot volley for themselves.

From May 30th to 31st, the Pepsi Cola World Foot Volley Tournament will take place at the Central World outdoor activity arena in downtown Bangkok.

Brits on holiday in Thailand will be able to catch a glimpse of international football stars as well as the professional foot volley teams from Spain, Brazil, Portugal and France who will pit themselves against Thai teams.

According to Tourism Thailand, the sport originated on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro before being introduced to the shores of Thailand in 2003 – and it is “now a highly popular beach sport around the world”.

Lonely Planet recommends people going on holiday to Thailand should pay a visit to the “multi-watt mega-city with chaotic traffic, nightlife and shopping” of Bangkok.
