Banyana Republic offers a funny and intelligent take on contemporary South African issues.

People who have taken cheap flights to Cape Town could see some cutting-edge South African comedy in August by attending Banyana Republic at Artscape Theatre.

As part of Women’s Arts Week, the show will see the award-winning Bafana Republic franchise created by Mike van Graan presented by female comics.

While the production aims to celebrate being a lady, the aim is also to provoke and entertain the audience, so visitors can expect a night of laughter with added depth.

“Using sport as an entry point for sharp, satirical commentary about contemporary social issues, each version had a number of new characters portrayed by the versatile actors in this one-person show,” explained Artscape, the company behind the performance.

The show takes place on August 5th at 18:00 local time and August 6th at 15:00 and 20:15. Admission costs 60 rand and each production is expected to last about 85 minutes.

Another entry in Women’s Art Week is the WHEAT Trust Awards, which celebrates the positive work of females in South Africa.
