Couples looking for an eco-friendly honeymoon should consider one of South Africa’s resorts, it has been asserted.

People booking honeymoons this year who are conscious of the  environment should consider jumping on flights to South Africafor an eco-friendly break, according to one newspaper.

In a list of the 20 best honeymoon destinations compiled by the Irish Independent, the South African resort of the Phantom Forest Eco Reserve came out on top.

The news provider highlighted the unusual setting and facilities on offer to lovebirds, such as a freshwater swimming pool and tree suites which are constructed in the forest canopy.

It is “nestled into the Afromontane forest along the Garden Route” and makes a perfect getaway for newly weds, the publication noted.

This is more than a simple relaxing resort though, with activities such as mountain biking, sailing and bungee jumping.

South Africa is set to attract thousands of international visitors this summer when the nation hosts the World Cup.

Johannesburg will host the opening game of the tournament on June 11th, with the home team facing off against Mexico.
