There are many last-minute deals to be found on holidays, especially to long-haul destinations, a travel industry expert has said.

Darren McCormick, head of aviation at Travel Counsellors, explained: “There are more last minute deals around than ever before, especially long haul … you will still be able to get good value for money.”

He added that in recent weeks it had become evident that travellers were becoming more confident in their spending and more and more people were making last-minute travel plans.

Bookings for last-minute holidays have risen by 20 per cent over the last six weeks, according to figures published by youtravel.com on June 24th.

People looking to book a last-minute holiday to Australia might want to take in the unusual sight of camel racing in Alice Springs.

The annual Camel Cup will take place on July 11th in Blatherskite Park and will see competitors race the animals along the Todd river bed.
