Jet Airways has been named as the best domestic airline in India.

Travellers taking flights to India who plan to make other journeys around the country could like to use Jet Airways after the carrier was named the best domestic airline.

The airline was awarded the accolade by the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) at their Diamond Jubilee Awards 2011.

Jet Airways was picked out as the winning airline after voting was carried out by 1,400 travel agents in the country that are TAAI members.

The prizes are given to companies which have been able to develop travel and tourism in a responsible and sustainable manner.

Picking up the prize, Sonu Kripalani, vice-president for the airline’s sales in India, said: “This award holds special significance as it is a recognition of our renowned service as acknowledged by the travel trade community.”

ABTA – the travel association recently suggested more people could be booking flights to India soon as this year’s Top Gear Christmas special has been filmed in the country.
