In good news for people looking for flights to India, Qatar airways has announced that it is to add extra services to both Goa and Amritsar.

Naveen Chawla, regional manager of the carrier, said that the new flights will begin in conjunction with the winter 2009-10 schedule. Although the exact start date was not given, winter flights usually begin in October.

Qatar, which operates flights to South Africa as well as India, is also looking into providing flights for the Indian premier league cricket tournament, Mr Chawla said.

“We are committed to our passengers on providing good connectivity,” he told the Economic Times of India, adding that the expansion is “part of our continuous focus on enhancing connectivity and network”.

Qatar Airways is one of only six airlines given a five-star rating by Skytrax and also provides flights to Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, among other Indian cities.

According to the Korea Times, it operates the world’s first dedicated commercial passenger terminal for first and business class passengers at the Doha International Airport.
