A new retrospective of Spanish master Goya will arrive in Delhi this month.

New Delhi is set to host a major new exhibition of the Spanish Romantic painter and Old Master Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes – popularly known simply as Goya.

Art lovers catching flights to Delhi within the coming weeks will be able to see the retrospective, entitled Goya: Chronicler of All Wars, at the Instituto Cervantes from July 15th to September 15th.

In total, 82 of Goya’s etchings will be showcased, giving attendees a chance to appreciate the Spanish master’s indelible legacy on the art world and explore the impact his anti-war message had on political artists around the world.

Jesus Clavero, cultural manager at the Instituto Cervantes, told India Today that the pieces are “reminders of the fact that the spectre of war remains with us”.

He added: “The war photos of subsequent decades prove nothing much has changed.”

After its two-month stint in Delhi, the exhibition will go on tour across the world before ending in Bordeaux. The French city is where Goya spent his final years, due to his disenchantment with the monarchy in his native country.
