Bangalore is soon to benefit from an additional 300 buses being added to its network.

People on flights to Bangalore could soon benefit from an increase in the number of buses which are being used on the city’s roads.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has announced that it will be adding 300 buses to its fleet, thanks to funds from Jawaharalal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Home and transport minister R Ashok explained there is a lot of unutilised funds available under the JNNURM.

“Since the state’s record in executing JNNURM works is exemplary, we are hoping to get at least 300 buses, though we have demanded 500 buses.”

He added that it is hoped more cities could be included in the programme, as requests have been made to make funds available for places with smaller populations.

There could be plenty of people taking flights to Bangalore to try out the public transport links, after Lonely Planet named it as one of the best places to visit in 2012.
