People wanting to get away do not have to travel to the other side of the world to experience something new.

Travellers could be planning to book flights to Egypt in order to get a taste of a different culture, without the need to take long-haul flights.

Offering tips on taking a ‘snap year’ away, rather than flying to the other side of the world on a gap year break, Tom Hall, travel editor from Lonely Planet, recommended looking for adventures close to home.

He said it is still possible to have a working trip, but with the comfort of knowing that home is only a few hours flight away.

“Lots of the Middle East will be trying hard to woo back travellers later on this year and countries like Jordan and Egypt are easy to get to and fascinating countries,” Mr Hall explained.

Those who decide to take flights to Egypt could soon be able to add a visit to Saudi Arabia into their trip, following the announcement that the nations are planning to construct a bridge.
