Sports fans who have booked flights to Dubai this week could be interested to learn that they will be touching down during the city’s international tennis tournament.

Anyone who is heading out of the country on flights to Dubai this week  could find that they bump into some familiar faces during their holiday.

Some of the best tennis players in the world are currently in the emirate competing in the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships.

Andy Murray is flying the flag for Britain, with fans of the sport probably hoping to buy some last minute tickets for one of his matches.

The Australian Open finalist will not get to face world number one Roger Federer though, because the Swiss tennis legend has withdrawn from the tournament due to illness.

However, defending champion Novak Djokovic is among those in contention for the title having won his first-round match in straight sets.

With the final being played out on February 27th, there is still plenty of time for anyone staying in Dubai to catch a match or two if they want.

All the games are being played out at the Dubai Tennis Stadium, which is also used to stage concerts during the rest of the year.

Stars to step into the spotlight at the venue have included Bryan Adams, Enrique Iglesias and Sting.
