Travellers planning on heading on holiday to Australia may want to experience a “world first” in ecotourism on an air tour over the Great Ocean Road.

Victoria in Australia has launched the only blue whale watching helicopter experience available in the world and visitors will be able to “get the ultimate view of the largest animal ever seen on Earth”, said Visit Melbourne.

The flight will take holidaymakers on a 30-minute trip out to sea so that passengers can see more of the huge animals than is possible from the deck of a boat.

Blue whales can grow to be up to 30.5 metres in length and can blow water as far as nine metres up into the air.

According to National Geographic, blue whales have a vivid blue colour underwater, but above sea level they appear a mottled grey colour.

Blue whales are an endangered species and can live for up to 80 to 90 years in the wild.
