Those booking cheap flights to Australia may be pleased to hear that it is one of the best places in the world to see, in the opinion of Conde Nast Traveller readers.

As those preparing to take off on their cheap holidays in Australia will no doubt agree, the country has been voted one of the best places in the world to travel to.

According to the readers of Conde Nast Traveller, Australia is the 4th greatest country to visit, followed by France.

Coming in first place was Italy, which knocked last year’s winner, New Zealand, off the top spot.

Turkey claimed third place, while Egypt, South Africa and Spain all made an appearance in the top ten.

Other categories in the awards include the world’s best city – an accolade claimed by New York – and best long-haul leisure airline, which went to Air New Zealand.

In related news, the Australian government is planning to spend AU$20 million (£10.2 million) on a new campaign aiming to drag its image as a nation of beach bums into the 21st century, it was reported last month.
